As a young boy, Ron spent a lot of time at Page Harbor with his Dad. He loves seeing how things worked and learning how to fix them. Ron was creative and inventive and as he grew into his teen years, his interests changed dramatically. It was Disney on Ice and Water Folly Shows that set in motion his dreams of the future. One show in particular was amazing. All the arena lights went out and instantaneously, the music blared, lights flickered and water shot up the curtains as if they were dancing to the beautiful music. It was a moment in time that was unforgettable and THAT was the moment that sparked Ron's imagination and thoughts of the future.
Ron built his first fountain in his bedroom that year and his excitement was electrifying as he called Mom and I up to see it. Ron, still in school, worked with props and lighting for the school plays. He got his first job after school at The Millend Shop that sold curtains and drapes. He graduated in 1959 from Central Tech High School in Syracuse, NY, and took a couple night classes in decorating while working for Sears Roebuck & Co. in the drapery department. He then taught design and decorating in night school.
Knowing that Syracuse wasn't the best place to pursue his dreams, Ron left for San Francisco, CA in 1962. He soon settled in Sacramento CA where he opened his first store. A short time later, he purchased the property on Kohler Avenue and was able to expand his business which allowed room for larger displays of fountains, statues, stone furniture, water plants and many decorative items. Ron was "Living His Dream" at last and loving every moment. Page's Fountains eventually became the OLDEST fountain store in Sacramento, California.
Ron passed away Easter Morning April 17, 2022, at his home in Sacramento, California. He was surrounded by his employee of 36 years, Margarito (Jose as Ron called him) Robles, Elizabeth, Diamante and Estreya. Ron thought of them like his own family. His last wish was that Jose would keep Page's Fountains flourishing for many years to come.
Ron and his sister's favorite place in the word was Las Vegas. He owned a condo overlooking the famous strip, with all the lights, fabulous shows, casinos, and waterfalls where we vacationed each year. Ron will truly be missed by his family, friends and long-time customers and of course, "Judy Levin".
